Evaluation Of My Magazine Project

There were the questions that I was given, with which to complete my evaluation.

• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
• Who would be the audience for your media product?
• How did you attract/address your audience?
• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product
1, Project uses the same template that is used to create most magazine front covers. It has the title at the top of the page , a large picture in the middle that most of the readers attention is drawn towards and some small text at the bottom. I largely based mt front cover on the front of the Last issue of the victirian magazine published.
2, My target audience is the pupis and the pupis parents/relatives who attend victoria college. This is because the magazine is advertised in the news letters that come with reports from victoria college. You also have to wrute to the college to request a copy of the latest victorian so contact with the college is essestial to come into contact with the victorian.
3, The kind of media instituation that would distribute my magazine is the school or college that were in charge of making and printing and distribution of the magazine.
4, I attracted and addressed my target audience by producing a magazine that featured a picture of a well known student on the front cover doing a activity that can be done through victoria college. My contents page also features various activities events and occasions that are the backbone of life at victoria college. The words the victorian have also been used on every single issue of the magazine and people know what is is and what it means and enjoy reading the magazine.
5, I hvae learnt alot about all the various different types of technologies that are available to be used to create a front cover and contents page similar to the one i created. I found alot of the technology difficult to use and understand and would like to do a project similar to this as i know have a base of knowledge which i can expand on in the future.

My Contents Page

Due to various technical faults and through no fault of my own i was unable to get a copy of my contents page from an apple computer to a windows. I even asked somebody who claimed to be good with computers and they didn't have a clue. My contents page was produced using a programme called indesign. It is similar to photoshop in that it often completely baffels me and i am often unsure as to how i t works. Creating my contents page was fairly simple as i olny had certain skills on indesign. I was able to take a heading photo of the prize giving and used that as the top band of my contents page. I then created a text box and simply made two lists of events that featured in previous editions of the victorian. There titles included
Sports Day
CCF
Run For Healen
House Charaties
House Palys
Us vs Them

There titles were followed by an imaginary page referance in a very simple to understand table.

I have found this entire project very useful and intresting as it has taught me a few key skills and the do's and dont's on apple technology. I would like the opportunity to do another project like this where i can be more adventerious and produce work of a higer and less basic standard.

This is the front cover that i designed and made myself for the Victorian magazine task. I got my inspiration my looked at numerious different editions of the Victorian magazine and decided to make a cover that was different to the others ones that i had seen. I chose to to a cover that would be eyecatching and yet simple to make as my skills on photoshop leave alot to be desired.I found a picture of myself that i had been taken when i was helming a yacht in the solent as part of the CCF royal navy cadet camp that i had gone on three years ago. The photo still met the criteria that the student had to of taken it, i took the photo myself using the self timer function on my Camera. After findng the photo and getting it in to photo shop i then used the magnetic lassoo tool to cut around myself and get rid of alot of unwanted picture that i did't need. I then took one of the Media cameras and took a picture of the front of the school. I waited for a day with good lighting and minimal clound to make the school look as good and bright as possible. After taking the photo i uploaded that into photoshop and cropped as much of it as i needed to to get it to fit into the A4 page size i was using. I swapped around the layers to make the picture go to the back and positioned the photo in the front right corner, infront of the background photo. The next step was to create two text boxes at the top and the bottom of the page and to simple write "The Victorian Magazine" at the top and "Keeeping you on the right track". I choose this particular phrase as i wanted it to be relevant to the nautical theme i had going and to be a relevant phrase that could be said about the college.
